The specialty of Sports Medicine has become a primary focal point on the injured competitive athlete over the years. Sports Medicine is not just for the athlete, but for everyone. The specialty has grown to encompass the needs of all individuals with musculoskeletal injury or pain who have a need to maintain or pursue an active lifestyle. OrthoLA has three board certified, fellowship trained Sports Medicine Physicians on staff: Dr. Jason A. Higgins, Dr. David W. Elias, and Dr. Patrick R. Ellender.
Most injuries and conditions that are treated are not always the result of a sports injury or work related incident. Sometimes they are simply a result of the normal aging process or inactivity. The main focus of our Sports Medicine physicians is the utilization of conservative care first rather than offering surgery as the first option.
OrthoLA is the official provider of orthopaedic care for all Nicholls State University athletes. In conjunction with the Thibodaux Regional Health System’s Sports Medicine department, our sports medicine physicians also provide care for all high school athletes in Lafourche Parish & St. Mary Parish public and private schools. In addition, they care for high school athletes in St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, St. James, and Terrebonne Parishes.
OrthoLA’s team of Sports Medicine Physicians and their staff are committed to providing the highest level of orthopaedic care to the student athletes in our area. We are available to you, should the need arise.
